Slow tour project

SLOWTOUR is one of four projects selected by the European Commission DG Enterprise and Industry in 2010, to realize “knowledge networks for the competitiveness and sustainability of European tourism”. Partners of the project are: the promoter Mountain Community Trasimeno Middle Tiber, the University of Perugia, Dept.of Economic and Estimative Sciences, the Global Nature Fund, with Living Lakes Network and the NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences Centre for Sustainable Tourism and Transport. The research activities based on case studies, focused on several European lakes, will involve tourists, tourism professionals, local public and private bodies, tourism experts. The model achieved from comparative studies on best practices, guidelines and monitoring tests based on sustainability indicators will be suitable to improve the performances of the European lake tourism destinations. In this way SLOWTOUR is a pilot model, a think tank, repeatable and transferable to different regions and contexts all over Europe, based on surveys, best practice case studies, assessment tools, analyses and guidelines for competitive and sustainable tourism in lake areas.
